It's Birthday Party Facetime !

Birthdays come but once a year – but aren’t you glad ! Post pandemic I think we are all more than ready to pull out all the stops to create the best birthday party on the block given that we have had two years of virtual parties or parties with just the immediate members of the family.

So now we are liberated, it’s time to try and create some memorable parties  to make up for the lost time.

Themed parties  have always been popular and there has been no let-up in this trend from superhero and dinosaur celebrations to Disney princess and Unicorn parties.

Start your themed party with invitations which can be downloaded for free from Be My Bear and then decide whether you want to ask guests to come dressed in the appropriate themed attire. Alternatively you could offer face painting at the party using professional artists or buying face paints for the children or adults to do themselves – what does it matter if it’s a little amateur – the idea is that it’s fun and the end results can look spectacular.

You can pick up some great face painting tutorials on U-tube and the face paints themselves come with step by step instructions and easy to follow guides. If you’re doing it yourself just make sure you buy paints from a reputable source ensuring they are cosmetic grade, and water based so that it can easily be removed from the face.

The theme continues with your choice of games – whether traditional or more up to the minute, the games can be changed to accommodate the chosen theme, so if you are running a dinosaur party, games could include sleeping dinosaurs or musical dinos using dino feet (instead of chairs) which can easily be made from newspaper or card.

If you have chosen a jungle themed party, decorate the party room with branches and foliage to create the appearance of a forest or wild area and use it for party games hiding treasure in amongst the leaves or creating a trail for the children to follow with a prize at the end.

Then there’s the cake – there are some great ideas out there on Instagram,  and Pinterest and you can make it as complicated or as simple as you choose – there are so many “cheat” recipes out there which don’t require the talents of a Mary Berry or a Delia Smith – what ever you do make it fun. As we’ve said  birthdays only come once a year – thank goodness !
