Egg-citing gifts for Easter

April 3, 2020 Be My Bear

As soon as the Valentine Day roses have lost their bloom, the Easter eggs are rolled out in their plastic wrapped, foil dazzling splendour, both mouth and eye watering in their decorative designs and costs.

But those constant kiddy demands to take a detour via the supermarket egg gondolas and the prospect of sugar highs and sticky fingers could take you in a different direction this year with a fabulous range of choco-free gifts for kids and adults alike appealing to a new generation of health and eco conscious shoppers.

We have scoured the high street and online markets for great Easter gift ideas and our Be My Bear review panel have come up with their top five to help you get cracking as the countdown begins.

Baker Ross

We were spoilt for choice with one of our favourite craft suppliers offering a wide range of craft activities from Easter pom pom chicks to Holy Week wreaths, but we plumped for Mosaic Easter Egg kits. The eggs themselves are made from polystyrene and the mosaics are self-adhesive, so easy to stick on with scope to create exquisite Faberge egg style designs. Great for the Easter table or suspended by ribbon from branches as part of your themed décor and at £4.95 for a pack of four, you can’t go wrong. Design, peel, stick and keep the kids happy for hours with a spectacular display after all the fun.

Abakhan, Fabrics, Hobby, Home

Another go to destination either in store or online for all things crafty, Abakhan have a huge choice of craft activities for kids and teenagers. We particularly liked the 3D Wooden Bird House (£7.50) with all you need to make…..yes,

a Bird House ! A great way to get the children involved in nature and with Spring in the air and the birds already starting to choose a partner and look for a suitable home, this nesting box ticks all the boxes encouraging wildlife into the garden. Just remember to fix it two to four metres up a tree or wall facing north east to avoid strong sunlight and wet and windy weather.

Little Lilly and Co

You can’t go wrong with the gift of a special outfit or accessories to be paraded on Easter Day and even better if it’s good for the planet as well as the kids, so choose an organic eco-friendly children’s brand. Clothing made from organic cotton is a win win because it’s kinder to the environment, softer on babies and children’s skin and washes well. Frugi has been using organic fabrics for 15 years and now also incorporates recycled plastic bottles and polyester into their designs. We love their Adventure Backpack with a Rhino Rambling print (£25) made from recycled polyester which is perfect for back to school complete with reflective print and a padded back and adjustable straps for a comfy fit. Frugi were Kids Brand of the Year in the Drapers Awards 2019 and are one of several eco-friendly brands stocked by this super independent children’s wear outlet.

Be My Bear

For a craft and gift all in one, look no further than Be My Bear, the original Build-Anywhere-Bear company. Enjoy hands-on fun making an Easter lamb, duck or bunny with your child without the frustration of threading a needle and the inconvenience of pricking your fingers with our award-winning no-sew kits. Each kit contains an animal skin with patented one-way zipper closure and a Velcro finish, a bag of stuffing, a birth certificate, a wish heart and deluxe carry bag with full easy to follow instructions. If you want to customise your animal further, choose a T-shirt which can be decorated with fabric pens, add a voice box to record a personal Easter message or opt for an outfit to give your furry friend a personality all of its own.

Waterstones

There’s nothing like a good read and Easter’s just the time to cuddle up with a child or grandchild and enjoy some special one to one time together in the world of the written word. Following hard on the heels of World Book Day, it’s another opportunity to encourage a youngster to read with or without you. Waterstones has arrange of Easter books in store and online, many focussing on Easter Egg hunts – from Mr Impossible and Peppa Pig to Peter Rabbit and Thomas the Tank. They also stock sticker books with Easter themed scenes with over 400 decorative stickers to create fabulous pictures. If you want a book celebrating the essence of Easter, Brian Wildsmith’s lovely tale – the Easter Story (£6.99) - is told through the eyes of the donkey who carried Jesus into Jerusalem, is with him during the crucifixion and witnesses the joy of the resurrection.
