Welcome to Dinosaur World

July 13, 2022 Be My Bear

Dinosaurs rule the world – well it would certainly seem that way after the launch of Jurassic Park World Dominion and the subsequent scramble for all things primeval.

Universal Pictures originally bought the rights to a sci fi novel by Michael Crichton and the resulting Jurassic Park, Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film adaptation put dinosaurs well and truly in the frame. His second novel The Lost World was also turned into a film four years later but subsequent films in the series including Jurassic Park ll are not based on the novels. A second trilogy of films began with Jurassic World in 2015 and became the first film to gross over $500 million worldwide in its opening weekend.

Each film has spawned a range of toys and video games which children just can’t get enough of sending parents demented as they try and secure the dinosaur stocking fillers on the Santa wish list in the countdown to Christmas!

Many children seem to have an inherent passion for dinosaurs and give you chapter and verse on each dino’s individual characteristics – from their size, weight, reputed appearance and the geological era that they lived in. From Diplodocus to T-rex, Triceratops to Brontosaurus, dinosaurs capture the imagination of children and are a constant object of fascination. A psychology study in 2008 concluded that children are most likely to experience “intense interest” in dinosaurs around the age of 4 often without parents noticing.

From the age of 3 children start to develop a sense of self and of the world around them and want to try out ideas in their very own imaginary worlds. As Dinos are extinct they slot into their imaginary play, taking on a life of their own along with fairies, monsters and unicorns in a world of make believe.

Our Be My Bear build a dinosaur kits will extend creative play as the children enjoy creating their dinosaurs, stuffing and fluffing them, adding a heart to bring them well and truly to life, no need for ancient DNA from mosquitoes in this scenario ! The children fill in a birth certificate letting their imagination go wild to create an original name for their new best friend as well as a place and date of birth and they’re ready to play in their very own Jurassic World.

The kids will know their dinos but do the adults !! so for those who aren’t avid paleontologists here’s the guide to the dinosaurs you can meet in Be My Bear’s Dinosaur Domain.

1.  Triceratops - a large quadruped herbivore living at the end of the Cretaceous period with a massive head with two large horns, a smaller horn on the beaked snout, and a bony frill above the neck.

2.  T-Rex – one of the most ferocious predators to ever walk the earth, with a massive body, the size of a bus, and jaws so powerful they could crush a ca living at the end of the Cretaceous period 68 million years ago.

3.  Brontosaurus -  a large, long necked quadruped with a long whip-like tail and forelimbs which were slightly shorter than its hindlimbs. The largest measured up to 22metres (72ft) from head to tail.

4.  Woolly Mammoth –  a species of mammoth living during the Pleistocene period, about the size of African elephants but with smaller ears to prevent them from losing body heat.
