Our Snow Leopard cub is super cute pussy cat with white fur, black and grey spots and emerald green eyes. He shares a birthday with lots of other cubs because most Snow Leopards are born in June and July turning the Central Asian mountains where they live into a nursery for kitties! Just like kittens snow leopards don’t open their eyes until they are about a week old and will stay in their den until they are three months when they venture out with mum as she hunts further and further away from the den. They will leave mum when they are about two years old after they have learnt all the skills they need to survive in the harsh mountain terrain. They are insulated by thick hair, and their wide, fur-covered feet act as natural snowshoes. With their powerful legs they are tremendous leapers, able to jump as far as 50 feet and eat almost anything they can catch, often hunting animals three times their size. Their main sources of food include wild sheep and goats, hares, and game birds. They purr, mew, hiss, growl, moan, and yowl. But they cannot roar because of how their throat has developed, and instead make a puffing sound called a 'chuff'. It goes without saying that you’ll be chuffed to bits with this little fellow - a big pussy cat from our Bear Factory stable ! Look after him well because there are so few of these beautiful elusive creatures left in the wild – you could also adopt a real Snow Leopard through the World WildLife Fund. An animal adoption helps the WWF to monitor the snow leopards’ movements and fund their work with local communities to ensure that they are protected from poaching and other threats.
